Winston Churchill Lifeline

London, 2005 – Small Design Firm was hired to create an interactive information surface for the Cabinet War Rooms in London. Over 6000 letters, documents, and photographs relating to Winston Churchill and his contemporaries spanning a century of British history can be browsed by museum goers using a touch based interface. Documents are arranged in chronological order and are explored via a long touchstrip spanning the length of a 15 meter table.

When a user browses to certain historical dates, such as May 7, 1915, when the Germans torpedoed the RMS Lusitania, the entire surface of the table is taken over by a single animation that describes the event.

Up to 26 people can use the table at once. The setup consists of 13 projectors, 40 channels of audio, 14 computers, and several kilometers of wiring. I wrote the the graphics and video software for the table. Oh yeah... And I met the Queen.
